Railway express connection to contribute to Novosibirsk Air Hub creation
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport participated in the Air Transport Conference hosted by the international exhibition complex Novosibirsk Expocentre on May 28th within the framework of the 3rd Transport of Siberia Forum.
Announced as a partner of the forum, NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport presented its demo stand. The Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Valeriy OKULOV, the Acting Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Vladimir GORODETSKY, representatives of the local government, state industry authorities and other guests had the opportunity to explore the transfer traffic development programme realized at Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport. Valeriy OKULOV underlined that Novosibirsk had a strong potential for growth and further development in this field.
The General Director of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport Evgeniy YANKILEVICH presented his report on the topic “Airport Public Transport Accessibility as the Priority for Air Hub Development”, wherein he emphasized that organization of the railway express links with Novosibirsk and the largest cities of Western Siberia could significantly stimulate the airport passenger traffic growth. Such public transport mode would guarantee timely arrival of passengers to the airport regardless of the traffic situation within Novosibirsk as well as allow all residents of the region to benefit from the extensive route network of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport. Currently, created on the initiative of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport, the working group examines practicability of the project. For this purpose, passenger questionnaire survey is organized on the airport’s official website (www.tolmachevo.ru), in the terminals and ticket offices regarding the preferable Aeroexpress routes from the airport and frequency of passengers’ trips. In order to provide the feasibility study, the leading experts in railroad and public transport system are expected to be involved, at a later stage. The project is conducted in close cooperation with the Government of the Novosibirsk Region and the Ministry of Transport of the Novosibirsk Region.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic terminal capacity makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the capacity on international flights – up to 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO CAT I and CAT II. In 2013 the passenger traffic exceeded 3.7 mln passengers and cargo traffic totalled 29.9 thousand tons of cargo and mail handled. In 2014 the airport expects to serve over 4.2 mln passengers and handle over 32 thousand tons of cargo and mail.
