Tolmachevo Airport Participates in The World Routes Development Forum
Тolmachevo Airport representatives took part in the 24th World Route Development Forum. It was held in Guangzhou (China) from 15th-18th September 2018.
Generally, the event attracts a lot of airport and airlines professionals from all over the world. Commercial management of Tolmachevo Airport and Siberian cluster of Novaport attended a series of business meetings and hold discussions with airlines, as well as with foreign international airports on the prospects of new flights from Siberian cluster airports: Novosibirsk, Ulan-Ude and Chita.
The air carriers from China - Air China, China Southern Airlines, Spring Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines and others are the major airlines of interest for Siberian Cluster airports.
Taking into account the growing number of tourists from China arriving to the region via Novosibirsk Airport as well as using it as a connection hub Tolmachevo Airport became the first largest regional air hub in Russia after Sheremetyevo airport joining China Friendly in June 2018 and meeting the certification requirements.
Development of flight connection with China destinations is one of the top priorities for expanding the route network of Tolmachevo Airport. According to Russian Federal Agency for Tourism, for the half year of 2018, the number of Chinese tourists visiting the Russian Federation within a free-visa groups increased by 50%.
Tolmachevo Airport is the main gateway of China tourists to Novosibirsk Region, being one of the main stopover transfer airports for Chinese tourists travelling to Moscow and Saint Petersburgh.
Tolmachevo International Airport (Novosibirsk) is the largest air hub east of the Urals on the main air routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, and international terminal capacity is 1,300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II categories.
Baikal International Airport (Ulan-Ude) is a large regional airport serving scheduled and charter passenger flights on international and domestic routes. Development of the airport is very promising due to the increasing demand for tourist trips from China and Mongolia to Lake Baikal.
The existing airport facilities ensure servicing up to 1 million passengers per year. By the end of 2017, total passenger traffic of the airport reached 269 thousand passengers. In April 2018, the construction of a new passenger terminal for handling international airlines was started with scheduled placing into operation by the end of 2020. Construction of a new artificial runway (3,400 m х 45 m) is anticipated to be completed this October. Baikal Airport is the closest international airport of the Russian Federation to the border with Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar capital city. In 2017, the number of tourists from Mongolia to Republic of Buryatia exceeded 700 thousand passengers.
In 2017, Baikal Airport secured 5th Freedom air traffic rights. This allows foreign airlines to operate transit flights via Ulan-Ude with the opportunity of embarking/disembarking passengers as well as of loading/unloading mail. 5th Freedom air rights also offer special opportunities for carriers from China and other Asia-Pacific Region countries.
Kadala International Airport (Chita) is the air harbor of Zabaikalsky Krai and the fifth largest airport of Siberian cluster by passenger traffic. Last year over 365 thousand passengers were handled by the airport. Zabaikalsky Krai is one of the regions enhancing the cooperation with China in the field of tourism and other branches of economy. According to the regional tourist offices, over 90% of tourists prefer China for tourism. Presently, scheduled flights to/from Chita airport are operated by Air China to Hailar.
