New air navigation system to be put into operation at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport plans to introduce a new operating concept implying simultaneous use of two runways and allowing aircraft to arrive and depart using satellite navigation.
Issues relating to the implementation of the new air navigation system are being worked out by Airport Tolmachevo JSC and ZapSibaeronavigatsiya, branch office of FSUE State ATM Corporation, together with Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) which deals with air traffic control in Germany and provides consulting services in this field.
Radionavigation system facilities currently applying at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport are not capable to use two runways simultaneously. The concept developed by DFS on request of the airport involves the use of new satellite navigation system (GNSS, GPS) on arrivals and departures via Novosibirsk airport. This will optimize air traffic control procedures and enable controllers and pilots to use the most accurate and efficient routes as well as facilitate airspace structure and the work of aircraft crews at the airport. DFS experts have prepared a draft and transferred all materials to the Russian side for further implementation of the new air navigation service system at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport in the first half of 2014.
Implementation of the new air navigation system at Novosibirsk airport is one of the stages of airfield infrastructure modernization. The project on reconstruction of such objects as RWY-1, drainage system, apron and taxiway system at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport will be developed by November 2014. As part of the reconstruction which is scheduled to begin in late 2014 it is also planned to upgrade RWY-1 to ICAO II category, build a new emergency and rescue station and provide airfield facilities with new security systems in order to ensure transport safety.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic terminal capacity makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the capacity on international flights – up to 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways.
Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) (German Air Traffic Control) oversees air traffic within Germany. The objectives of DFS include air traffic control, establishment and operation of radio navigation systems as well as collection and dissemination of aeronautical information and maps.
